The daily news bombards us with doomsday predictions. Wars rage. The planet groans under the weight of human activities. An overwhelming majority of human beings struggle to survive while a tiny elite enjoys unprecedented wealth and control, pampering themselves with stolen fortunes. Meanwhile, from somewhere in the distant past a prediction echoes---2012: a planetary shift, a transformed world, an apocalypse, a dream of salvation....

Transformation 2012 is a participatory performance event lead by local theater artist Melanie St. Ours. In three exuberant, challenging, life-affirming hours we'll make revolutionary theater that envisions the transformed world that we dream of creating. We'll break down barriers between actors and audience, tell our own stories, joyfully explore possible futures, and dare to dream a healthier world into existence. Through the power of theater we will actually "be the change we wish to see in the world."

Laura is a variety performer unlike any other, performing all over the world with her innovative juggling. She specializes in juggling, aerial silks and flood light poi and currently lives in Washington D.C. In 2007 she won first place at the World Juggling Federation and is recognized as one of the top female jugglers in the world.

A Dynamic Duo:

If ever a musical pair embodied the term “poised” it would be guitarist Deon Clark and vocalist Lisa Cobham. A do-it-yourself effort produced by the team. The team’s knack for creative interpretations of classic standards and covers remains their strong suit. Deon’s gritty layered jazz guitar serves as the perfect foundation for the clean clear vocals of Ms. Lisa Cobham.

The DMV's best kept secret, hip-hop group The Paxtons, will be releasing their upcoming project "Work" in collaboration with fashion & streetwear apparel brands UBIQ & Atmos on Tuesday, June 30th, 2009. In preparation for the release, join The Paxtons at Artomatic for an intimate performance of tracks off the "Work" project and hear new material before The Paxtons head off for their summer 2009 "Work" Release Tour.

Live Painting Performance:

I paint imaginative visions on large canvas with fast drying acrylic paints. Influenced by a musical mix of rock, hip-hop and R&B.

Comedic Storytelling-- I tell stories about teaching, living with two giant dogs, having lots of education but no common sense, and being up for any sort of potentially interesting adventure. I'm a professor who has taught university classes for years (which is not so unlike stand-up comedy...) and how has also performed stand-up a few times. I tell a good story, and I think the Artomatic event is a place where I could find a venue for doing that. Ideally, I'd like space to tell 3-5 short stories-- maybe in 10 or 15 minutes.

Saint Gabrielle Street & Company is currently featuring its dynamic multimedia performance "Everyday Angel" which depicts a provocative inside look into the life changing power of positive impact we have on the lives of those we come in contact with everyday. Creatively fusing inspirational speaking, choreographed dance, staged theatrics and a live DJ. We will captivate and inspire audiences to support the dreams of others as they pursue their own unique gifts and talents.

Bethany, aka Beatnik Betty, is a DC-area poet and spoken-word artist. Her activism and spirituality inspire poetry, song, and dance through various channels.

Bethany will perform on the poetry stage 2-3 times during the Art-O-Matic 2009 event.

Dead Violets will perform on May 30th during the Sonic Circuits music block on the cabaret stage.

Doomlaut, the exciting new DC-area music-and-fashion DJ cult, will also throw a dance party one evening, TBD. Come prove that DCers DO dance!

Justin Cousson is the Founder and Ringleader of Off the Wall, the University of Maryland's stand-up comedy group as well as the creator of the comic strip of the same name published in the University of Maryland Diamondback.

He has performed at venues such as Magooby's Joke House in Baltimore and the Gotham Comedy Club in New York, and has been seen on Comcast On-Demand and been heard on WMUC radio.

These drag kings and belly dancers are joining forces to create a show promoting impowerment through creative expression. It's hot, sassy and not to be missed!

We lack a script, a plot, a backdrop, a moveable set, any props, fire jugglers, a sense of right and wrong, costumes, professional makeup, peep dioramas, mixed media social statements, a high wire, animals of any variety, musical instruments, curtains, a key grip or best boy, specialized shoes, an emcee, a score, gymnasts, stuntmen, cinematography, special effects, speech filters, choreography, a soundtrack, and the good sense that would keep most people from going on stage for 50 minutes to try to make you laugh with nothing but each other.
