Plan your visit

Artomatic is the DC area’s biggest arts festival. It features all kinds of art: visual art, music, performance, film, fashion, and more. And it is run entirely by volunteers. Check the events calendar for specific happenings -- daytime workshops for kids, DJ appearances, comedy acts and even wine tastings.

When: Now until Saturday, June 23

  • Wednesdays and Thursdays: noon – 10 pm
  • Fridays and Saturdays: noon – 1 am
  • Sundays: noon – 5 pm
  • Closed Mondays and Tuesdays

Where: 1851 S. Bell St. in Crystal City, a block from Metro

We recommend taking Metro if you can, especially on Sunday, June 10, when a large event will close some roads in Crystal City. Get details and directions for driving, parking, Metro and bike.

What to expect

There's a LOT going on at Artomatic! Even if you come during a weekday where there are fewer performances and events, there are ten floors of visual art by more than 1,000 artists. Wear comfortable shoes and plan to visit more than once.

This story in the Huffington Post has almost 50 photos that give a good idea of the variety of artwork you'll see, but don't forget the events, too!

Food and drink

Food, beer, and wine will be available for purchase at Artomatic much of the time. Busboys and Poets has a pop-up cafe with a small selection of menu items (including vegan fare) on the first  floor. Their hours are  Friday 5-11 pm, Saturday 12-10 pm, Sunday 12-5 pm.

You'll find bars with drinks and snacks on the first, seventh and tenth floors, and roving bar carts on other floors. (Not all bars are open at all hours; check with the friendly volunteers when you come in to find out which are open.)

Within very easy walking distance you'll also find many Crystal City restaurants, in all price ranges.

The Busboys and Poets cafe accepts credit cards, the bars and donation boxes are cash-only. There's an ATM at the 7th floor bar, and a Capitol One ATM a block and a half from the back entrance, on Crystal Drive.
