Catharsis & Karma: An Open Thank You Letter to a Homewrecker
Yup, just what it sounds like. The letter every woman who has been cheated on and abandon when she is seriously ill would like to write. Just a heads up and hi from the from the "bitch who just didn't understand him like you could," to the woman who has never bothered to meet me and find out his lies weren't true. A heartfelt thanks for taking the loser out of my bed and making me a stronger person. The fact that i get to do it with 70,000+ witnesses makes it that much more fun.
25% of sales of the homewrecker dolls that are part of the installation go to the National Capital Lyme Association and the Alexandria Domestic Violence Hotline. 2 organizations i wouldn't be alive today without. I would like to thank every person who has crowded around to read the letter and written in my guestbook. The reception this piece has received has been completely overwhelming. Thanks, deb
oh yeah, and i'm a fiber artist at the torpedo factory art center where i don't generally make homewrecker dolls. My current work is about energy, emotion and wordplay. Experimenting with raw silk, wool, crocheted copper wire, found objects and a few shish kabob sticks, I mash it all together with a flurry of machine stitching, a little elbow grease, a generous dose of bead work and at least a few healthy belly laughs.
