I call the pieces I will be featuring "sculptural assemblages." They are found object assemblages anchored by my sculptural work.
For backgrounds I have used collage pulled from my play at artjournaling. I also incorporate pieces of my own work that didn't work out and so I broke them into smaller pieces which I use like mosaic tiles, or simply reassemble - the broken work having a different energy than the whole piece. I scout thrift stores and take in broken and mismatched dishes and pottery to break up for color and pattern. I use the knowledge I gained from lampwork and fused and slumped glass to bring a bit of sparkle and add "one-of-a-kind"ness to the piece, and leftovers from my childhood to add a personal touch (I am SUCH a packrat!).
Work can be hung indoors or used to create special outdoor spaces in your yard, on your porch and in a patio area. While I find them 4 season safe, I do recommend bringing pieces in for the winter just in case.
