Lydia Prentiss

My work includes journals, paintings, metal sculptures and video art. My artwork is influenced by psychoanalytic theory, ideas of projection, child development, and feminism. Much of my art is based on personal experience, especially my experience as a mother. I have filled nearly a dozen journals with self portraits, drawings of my son, fantasy images and dreams. You may find that a narrative is suggested by certain images but the meaning seems clear, please let me know- because I'm a bit unclear about what all of it means, myself. My two dimensional works combine techniques and mediums including drawing, painting, computer graphics and printmaking. My cast iron pieces explore ideas of "the precious" through an unpredictable process which leads to imperfect results.
